Shopping in the south of Gran Canaria – groceries, drinks & malls
Here I collect my personal favourites for everyday shopping – with a focus on fresh counters
(fish/meat), a good wine & drinks selection, reliable service and easy parking.
Over time I’m also adding shopping centres for days when you don’t just want to buy essentials,
but also stroll around, eat well, or go out in the evening without stress.
✅ Excellent parking (often with underground garage)✅ Fresh counters (fish / meat)✅ Easy to reach✅ Bonus in heat: cooler loading/unloading
How I approach this page
Not every shopping trip in the south of Gran Canaria is the same. Sometimes it’s purely practical:
groceries, drinks and short routes. But sometimes you consciously want a modern mall with restaurants,
open spaces and a bit more atmosphere. That’s why I separate classic supermarket tips from larger
shopping spots.
Groceries & essentials
For day-to-day shopping, my priorities are freshness, clarity, parking and a smooth, uncomplicated routine.
Mercadona (Meloneras) – freshness & fish
My #1 choice for healthy groceries: fresh fish, fruit and vegetables – with attentive service.
Address: C. Mar de Azor, s/n, 35100 San Bartolomé de Tirajana
Opening hours (typical): Mon–Sat 09:00–21:30 · Sun closed
Season note: Opening hours can differ between summer and winter season – best to double-check occasionally on site or in Google Maps.
Parking: Excellent – including underground garage (a real advantage in warm temperatures).
Fish counter: my first choice for fresh fish – personal, attentive, clean.
Fruit & veg: reliably fresh, ideal for “healthy shopping”.
Overall: calm, well organised, easy for everyday routines.
Mercadona Meloneras: fresh fish counter – my go-to tip for healthy shopping in South Gran Canaria.
If you want more than just essentials – a modern centre with restaurants, open spaces and a pleasant evening vibe – the south offers good options.
Mogan Mall – modern, open and ideal for a relaxed shopping stop
A modern spot in the centre of Puerto Rico / Mogán, known for its open concept,
airy architecture and the mix of shops, restaurants and evening atmosphere.
Style: open, modern mall with restaurants and generous outdoor areas
Practical:free parking garage and easy access
Vibe: relaxed during the day, especially pleasant in the evening
Note: there are additional shops nearby in the direction of the sea
Mogan Mall is often described as very well maintained, modern and pleasantly cool – a clear advantage
when the sun is strong outside. People highlight the open architecture, the relaxed atmosphere,
and the mix of well-known brands, smaller shops and a variety of restaurants. A nice aspect is that you
don’t just pick something up quickly – you can also plan for a coffee, snack or dinner without stress.
For a short holiday visit or a relaxed evening, it’s a good complement to classic supermarkets.
If you live nearby long-term, it will naturally feel less “special” than some enthusiastic reviews suggest.
Still: modern, clean, practical, free parking, and overall a place where you can comfortably spend a few hours.
Pros: modern open design, pleasant climate, good restaurant choice, free parking.
Nice in the evening: Friday or Saturday usually feels especially lively.
Extra: the evening fountain show is often mentioned as a nice finish.
Realistic view: not a “mega event”, but a clean and worthwhile shopping & dining stop.
Mogan Mall: modern, open architecture with restaurants and free parking – a great complement to classic supermarket shopping.
Atlántico Shopping Center – big, practical, and ideal for a full shopping run
If you’re not after a short stroll but a larger centre with many shops, a supermarket, food options
and an easy drive, Atlántico Shopping Center is one of the most practical addresses in the south/south-east of Gran Canaria.
Style: large modern mall on two levels with many shops and a big Carrefour
Practical:free parking, right by the motorway and therefore very easy to reach by car
Atmosphere: air-conditioned, clean and everyday-friendly – more functional than “spectacular”
Plus: a good mix of shopping, food and a big weekly shop in one place
Atlántico is especially useful when you want to tick off several things in one go.
Many reviews describe it as large, clean and pleasantly air-conditioned, with a good mix of smaller
and larger stores, fashion, tech, branded items and more budget-friendly options. The large Carrefour
is a key anchor for many visitors.
The location directly next to the motorway is a major advantage. By car it’s straightforward,
parking is generous and free. That makes it suitable not only for a shopping visit, but also for a bigger run
combining groceries, clothing and a few extra errands.
There are also cafés and quick restaurant options for a break in between. If you want, you can combine
the visit with a detour to Vecindario. Overall, Atlántico is not a lifestyle spot – it’s a practical, large
and reliable place for a full shopping day.
Pros: big Carrefour, many shops, free parking and easy access.
Good in heat: air-conditioned and therefore much more relaxed than a street-only stroll.
Family-friendly: shopping + food + sweets, with short distances inside the centre.
Realistic view: less “open-air elegance” than some malls, but very practical and versatile.
Atlántico Shopping Center: a large, air-conditioned mall with Carrefour, many shops and free parking – ideal for a combined larger shopping run.
CC Las Arenas – big city mall in Las Palmas with food court and a great bad-weather option
If you want to combine a Las Palmas trip with shopping, CC Las Arenas is one of the big, straightforward choices on Gran Canaria – lots of stores, easy access and a practical setup.
Style: large mall in Las Palmas with many international brands, a food court and wide selection
Practical: up to 3 hours free parking (often longer with higher spend)
Good for: a shopping trip, very hot days, windy weather, or half a day in Las Palmas
Extra: also easy to reach by public transport
CC Las Arenas is often described as very large, clean and nicely structured. The shop selection is broad enough
that many people will find what they want – from well-known international brands to everyday stores for a longer shopping session.
Despite its size, it typically doesn’t feel cramped; it tends to feel open and comfortable.
It’s particularly practical on days when you don’t want to spend all day outside – whether due to strong heat,
wind, or just less-than-ideal weather. There’s also a food court with the usual quick options plus additional
casual restaurants. That makes Las Arenas suitable not just for quick purchases, but for a relaxed half day with a break and a meal.
As an addition to shopping options in the south, CC Las Arenas is mainly interesting if you’re already heading to Las Palmas
or deliberately want a bigger urban shopping centre. It’s less holiday vibe and more classic city mall – which can be exactly right depending on the day.
Pros: wide selection, clean mall, easy access and several hours of free parking.
Great in heat or wind: a strong alternative to being outdoors.
Good for families/groups: food court, many shops, plenty of space.
Realistic view: more of a large urban mall than a “special lifestyle spot”.
CC Las Arenas in Las Palmas: a large city mall with many stores, a food court and several hours of free parking.
